  • 1. What the **** is it?

The YOULEVEL is a miraculous tool designed to help you hang stuff perfectly level the first time, lending super hero hanging power to anyone who needs it. It probably looks a little different than your run-of-the-mill standard level—and that’s because it is different—for all the right reasons.
Remember struggling to balance ordinary square levels on top of objects when you were trying to figure out how to hang mirrors, artwork, speakers, and just about any home decor? And how'd people ever secure levels of yesteryear on round objects like curtain rods, towel bars, wall-hung candelabras, and decorative metal art pieces? All hail the YOULEVEL!
Sure it can sit on top of items, but the YOULEVEL was designed to be a hands-free leveling device for virtually ANYTHING you're looking to mount on the wall. For framed pieces, simply slide the white fin of the YOULEVEL between the frame and glass—it sticks no matter what kind of frame you're hanging! To hang towel bars, curtain rods or anything with a rounded shape, use the included rubber bands to loop around the bar and attach over the round knobs on the ends of the YOULEVEL to hold it in place.
The YOULEVEL is truly simple and hands-free.

  • 2. What sparked the idea for such a handy tool to show you how to hang stuff right the first time?

It was fate. Okay, or maybe a girlfriend’s honey-do list. Since the beginning of time, challenged and frustrated folk have performed daring rituals of skill by placing and balancing an ordinary level on top of an object to be hung on the wall. Unfortunately, many of these levels fell to their doom—bruising many a foot in the process. Lets face it: a rectangular level + weird shaped frames or rounded objects = a painstaking battle that usually ends in a brutal fail.
    Until now.
The YOULEVEL comes with a built-in safety net for its high-wire act—the thin fin along the top slips between the glass or mirror and the frame, making the YOULEVEL impervious to shaky heights (and hands.) And, it can perform like a superstar even on round objects like towel bars, curtain rods, and candelabras.
So where did the hands-free level idea come from? Well, basically, frustration! Imagine this: an innovative geek with a tool belt, holding a honey-do list, a frame, and a blank wall. The creative possibilities are endless… How to get that level hands-free? Affix it to a credit card and slip it between the glass and frame! Hang a curtain rod with the same level? Give the level straddling legs like it's about go for a bull ride.
Trust us: Once you've conquered your first wall-hanging rodeo with the YOULEVEL, you'll never want to partner with any other tool or wall hanging system again.

  • 3. What are the little teeth-like shapes at the base of the YOULEVEL?

Those small teeth are what help keep the YOULEVEL affixed to ANY rounded item being hung on the wall. Once it is attached with rubber bands, it tightly straddles round objects like curtain rods, towel bars, and wrought iron candelabras. The V-channel the teeth create will straddle any radius, making it easy to keep the YOULEVEL in place, totally hands-free.
But in terms of design, there was more to it than just looking cool—it was also about literally keeping it cool. Those little gaps in between the teeth (reminiscent of David Letterman’s grill) reduce the thermal mass of material when the YOULEVEL is being molded, ensuring better accuracy of shape so you can rest assured your picture from the Late Night Show will be well hung.
And if you find other uses, like for combing your Maine Coon kitteh, Team YHI would love to know!

  • 5. What are the knobs at each end of the YOULEVEL used for?

Those two small knobs or pivots are the attachment points for the rubber bands. When hanging and leveling a towel bar, curtain rod, or wrought iron candelabra, you will use the rubber bands included with your YOULEVEL to affix to round items you want to hang on the wall. You’ll loop the band from one side of the handsfree level to the other at each end, leaving the YOULEVEL banded to the rod or bar in very simple to execute steps.
This process keeps the YOULEVEL hands-free even on curved surfaces [please, feel free to applaud.] Not to mention these two little pivots make for a much more ergonomic way to hold the YOULEVEL in your fingers. Oula home decorators!

  • 6. How do I hang a picture with the YOULEVEL?

Glad you asked—it’s easy! Just slide the white plastic fin of the YOULEVEL in between the glass and the frame. Attach a handy-dandy YOUHANGIT to the hanging hardware on the back of the picture and remove the RED safety plug from the YOUHANGIT.
Next, place your frame in the desired spot against the wall. Use the YOULEVEL to ensure the picture is straight, and then press gently towards the wall. The YOUHANGIT will smoosh under the pressure, causing the sharp pointy thing inside to leave a small mark on the wall that indicates where to place the wall hardware.
Insert a nail at the mark—or, align the bottom of a Sexy Metal Hook with the mark. Don’t forget to replace the safety plug and remove the YOUHANGIT from the back of your item!
Hang your picture on the wall using the hands-free YOULEVEL to make sure it's well hung every time.
Depending on the frame’s hardware, you will likely do better to utilize YOUHANGITs for multiple keyholes, D-rings, or sawtooth hardware. Remember to use screws with drywall anchors (we don’t provide these, sorry kids) if your frame has keyholes.

  • 9. How do I hang a towel bar with a YOULEVEL?

All you need are a couple rubber bands (which we totally included for you) to work some magic. Loop one end of the rubber band around the small knob or pivot on one side of the YOULEVEL. Wrap the band around the towel bar, and then re-loop it over the same pivot on the YOULEVEL.
Repeat this same step-by-step on the other end of the level. The YOULEVEL is now secure and hands-free! Attach a YOUHANGIT to each end of the towel bar. Remove the RED safety plugs from the YOUHANGITs. Level the bar with the YOULEVEL, then press the towel bar into the wall to leave small marks at either end of the bar.

Before you go on a hysterical rage, check the box your towel bar came in for hardware—most of the time the makers of these items will include the screws with drywall anchors for your convenience. No need to spend money at the hardware store in most instances, or unless you’re making a towel bar out of repurposed wood items. We did it. Just sayin’.

  • 10. How do I hang a curtain rod with a YOULEVEL?

Very easily is the short answer! This device will leave you with perfectly level curtain rods each and every time.
Manufacturers of curtain rods typically supply screws with drywall anchors that attach the mounting brackets and the rod arms to the wall. What they do NOT supply is a way to affix a level to the curtain rod while you work, or a way to mark the perfect location for the mounting screws: This is where the YOULEVEL and the YOUHANGIT innovations shine!
Adhere two YOUHANGITs to the mounting bracket hardware on each end of the curtain rod. Remove the RED safety plugs from the YOUHANGITs. Take the YOULEVEL and place it on top of the curtain rod. Loop one end of the rubber band around the small knob or pivot on one side of the YOULEVEL. Wrap the same band around the curtain rod, and then re-loop it over the same pivot on the YOULEVEL. Repeat this same step-by-step on the other end of the level.
Young Jedi, you are now well on you’re way to hands-free leveling bliss.
Ensure the curtain rod is straight above the window by viewing the bubble in the blue liquid of the hands free level, then press the curtain rod with YOUHANGITs adhered to it against the wall to leave two small marks.
This operation may require a friend if you’re hanging long curtain rods, making sure to smoosh the YOUHANGITs simultaneously, causing the sharp pointy things to leave small marks that perfectly locate where to affix the curtain rod’s mounting brackets.
Don’t forget to replace the safety plugs and remove the YOUHANGITs from the mounting brackets! Place your hanging hardware, and hang your curtain rod! Be sure to check the box your curtain rod came in, as most manufacturers will include the screws with drywall anchors for your convenience.
