Hang Any Mirror You Want: Have a House of Mirrors if That’s What You’re Into

We all have a thing. For some people, it’s hiking, for others, it’s late night banana splits, and for you, maybe it’s mirrors. Whether it’s one distinctive mirror from an auction, or a collection of mirrors from dumpster dives and thrift shops, they’re important to you. If you love your mirrors, learn how to hang a mirror right.

Mirrors are tricky animals because they don’t have anyuniversal method for hanging—some have backing with wire, some have sawtooth hangers, and some have single or double keyholes, depending on the size, weight, and general randomness of the universe. So because of the lovely unknown that guides us whirling through the galaxy, if you’re a mirror aficionado, you’ll probably want to learn how to hang any mirror you find. With this knowledge comes the freedom to purchase or plunder for any mirror you want—never settle again for the one that’s the easiest to hang—using the YOUHANGIT system, you can hang a mirror with double keyholes, sawtooth hangers, or a simple wire hanger.

Probably the thing you’ll love best regardless of the hardware you’re working with will be the YHI YOULEVEL tool. This level will blow your mind—yes, just like that ponytail guy on late night TV swishing back and forth on that elliptical machine—prepare to have your mind blown. Check it:

The ultra thin top allows you to slide the YOULEVEL between the frame and the mirror so you won’t have to use your hands to level anything. It’s leveling for you while you use your hands to execute the YOUHANGIT mantra, “Peel, Stick, Level, Squish.” Compare that to the conventional level you may have used before that slides all over the top of whatever you’re hanging, falls down, or you wind up "MacGyvering" to the top of your mirror or artwork (lots of fun removing tape from that awesome, delicate vintage frame too.)

So once you have your level in place, you can get to the business of the next point: wire, sawtooth, or keyholes?

The most common for mirrors is the double keyhole—these keyholes are spaced apart on the right and left sides of the mirror, making them the most arduous and difficult hanging method of all time.

Regardless of the number of keyholes, if your mirror has them, YHI’s Decor & More Kit has what you need to get it level and hung using hardware supplied by the manufacturer. Alternatively, if you have a mirror with a wire hanger or a single or double sawtooth hanger, the same rules apply:

®    Find the place/hardware on the back of the mirror that will require the screw or nail hole

®    Apply the YOUHANGIT (pssst, the white plastic springy thingy) centrally over said hardware location

®    Find the spot on the wall, keep your eyeballs on the YOULEVEL, when you see what you like in the blue liquid, squish that sucker into the wall

®    Pull the mirror away and remove the YOUHANGIT

®    Screw in your drywall anchor, and make that keyhole happy

You can repeat this cycle until your home looks like a funhouse, or, you know, just the once. But there’s more! Most people think a hook is a hook, but YHI took mirror and picture hanging technology to a whole new level with our Sexy Metal Hooks—designed to handle anything—so you can hang really, really heavy mirrors, even without a stud (the upright wall support or a guy, either type of stud can be avoided.)
